D'Rafael is a multifaceted, self-taught artist born in Lima, Peru.
At age of 6, he started composing his own instrumental pieces and
has since devoted his life to music and art.
In 1986,at the age of 15, he was awarded his first Talent Prize
at the Barranco Music Competition for Guitarists in Lima, Peru.
Only four years later, in 1990, D'rafael won a scholarship to study Visual Arts at the School of Fine Arts in Miami, Florida. Then in 1991, he became the recipient of a music award for Best Performance at the Traditional Music Competition in Miami, Florida hosted by the legendary Don Augusto Ferrando.
So far, D'Rafael performed with many bands over the past 20 years, before finally making a name for himself in and around the New England Area in 1994 which has led to appearances in Radio & TV & Shows, College and University Festivals, many private events all over the US and 3 Boston Globe Publications.
Aside from being an excellent self-taught Guitarist, D'Rafael is
a gifted Composer, Arranger and Music Director. His compositions overflow with creativity and are inspired by real-life and imaginary experiences, and are well integrated into his unique style thanks to his marvelous artistry. His albums are characterized by his Instrumental Latin Gypsy Guitar Style which also draws from classical and jazz and are permeated by the textures of string sections, keyboards, flutes, saxes, and Latin percussion instruments.
